Review of B7 written by a patient
2nd May 2018

As a first time mum I can honestly say the quality of care, treatment & support my baby & I received at QA could NOT have been better had I paid to go private. This far exceeded my expectations & the staff across the entire maternity department ( as I was in labour for 2 days predominantly on B5 but also on B8) were so friendly & helpful, day & night, that I felt as if I could have been the only person giving birth although this was clearly not the case. I was never made to feel like a burden or inconvenience or like I was taking up valuable bed space & it was stressed to me repeatedly that if I had any questions day or night to simply press my call button & this was indeed the case. All staff were introduced to me at handover times during shift changes in a friendly yet professional manner & the continuity of my care over the extended period of my stay was superb. I am choosing to breast feed & genuinely feel that I may well have given up had I not had the help & support of the staff I encountered during my stay as their offers of help always felt genuine so I did not feel like a burden when I was struggling. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to each & every member of staff I had dealings with during my stay as they all helped not only with my physical care but with my peace of mind at such a mentally challenging time. I do not intend to have any further children but if I did without question or doubt I would have them at QA & I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else based on my experience. I would also like to add that the cleaning staff & the catering staff I met were all very polite & friendly too & I was well fed & watered during my stay with plenty of choice available for even the fussiest of eaters.

Great compassion and concern shown, particularly by Ward Sister, Katherine Davenport. However, all staff were superb from the anciliary staff upwards. I was particularly impressed by Professor Brennan: not only his skill in performing a particularly difficult procedure but also his friendliness and opennes in what the operation entailed. Ignore the negative comments in the Press: Q.A. is wonderful. My eternal thanks to the whole orgaanisation. Ian Cuthbert

Review of B8 (Labour) written by a patient
1st May 2018

Full credit to Sarah Burr & student Lucy Jo, they were completely supportive, caring & listened to what I wanted and did all they could to make it happen! Dr Raj was also a great support. I didn’t have a great birth experience 5 years ago and was determined to have a better, more positive experience, this time round. I’m not convinced I would have done without Sarah & Dr Raj - they listened to hear rather than listened to respond - some of their colleagues could have more training in this area. What really impressed me is how the midwives, doctors and anaesthetists worked as a team.

This was my first experience of staying in hospital so I was nervous but the nurses and staff (especially the student nurses) on D8 made me feel reassured and safe during my time there.

Review of Emergency Department written by a patient
28th April 2018

I was recently in Monaco and had to attend the accident and emergency department at one of the local hospitals. From my entry to the hospital in Monaco, I was seen by a DOCTOR within 6 minutes. This included my time to book in and fill in attendence forms in French. The treatment of my sprain was concluded fully and I was discharged within 59 minutes of walking into the hospital in Monaco. I had an X-ray, treatment, and two consultations in that time. Upon attendence to QA today I was triaged after 5 minutes (great!). It then took 2.5 hours for a Nurse Practitioner to see me. There was then a 25 minute wait for X-ray followed by a further delay in being seen again. I was told the wait for a Doctor was upwards of 7 HOURS. I was discharged by the Nurse Practitioner because I was lucky enough not to need the Doctor’s help. Your staff are amazing. Your hospital is the most badly-run institution I have ever come across. 3 hours just to see a nurse, and a 7 hour wait to see a Doctor. It’s disgusting. If the NHS cannot sort itself out and see patients in a timeley manner then it is time to give private organisations a chance to do it instead.

Review of C7 written by a patient

The care given by frontline nurses and staff was excellent. They were very cheerful and happy in front of patients. The care I personally received was brilliant and I could not be happier. I do feel though that more attention could be give to elderly patients that have dementia, especially at night when some kept trying to get out of bed at night and disturb the sleep of others.

Review of D4 written by a patient
27th April 2018

I though on an individual basis all of the staff I encountered were caring and kind and carried ou their jobs to a high standard despite the obvious shortage of staff. The nurses and health care assistants did a stellar job. Just as I was going to have a CT scan it was decided that I needed to take a pregnancy test because I couldn't confirm that I was definitely not pregnant. So I was wheeled into the corridor outside the CT scanner room, a screen was partially placed in front of me and I was asked to pee in the tiniest cup imaginable. This had to be one of the most mortifying moments in my life with people walking past with a good view through the gaps in the curtain and somebody on the other side of the curtain asking loudly in earshot of the people walking up in the corridor if I was done yet. Eventually I was wheeled back to my ward where I took the pregnancy test and had the ct scan later on. At all other times I was treated with dignity and respect but this was the lowest point of my stay. On the other hand the staff on the ward were very accommodating when I did not wish to use a bed pan and made arrangements for me to be wheeled to the bathroom instead. The porters were always very friendly and efficient. The ward was cleaned to a high standard. The physio therapy team were great and did everything in their power to get me home as fast as possible. There was a wide choice of food available on the menu. I was offered a hot drink very frequently. I was very very very disappointed when the morning after my operation I was not visited by the consultant/doctor or anyone on the team who carried out my surgery (and it was a week day). I only spoke to a doctor post operation at my insistence just as I was discharged. However I would have liked to have been told if my operation had gone well and exactly what they did especially since I was told they wouldn't know exactly what they would do in the surgery until they got in there. It felt as though no one was responsible for my care and I felt very let down and as if no one cared. Especially as the other patients around me were visited by doctors every morning. Overall my stay was good despite the two issues and I imagine the issues I encountered were probably due to shortage of staff so in the circumstances I wpiuld recommend the service.
